2 IN A MILLION

How long does it take to shoot a music video?
Apparently 30 minutes is enough.
This is how long it took for director J.A. Moreno to shoot the director’s cut of 2 in a Million, the latest music video for SHAED, Steve Aoki, and Sting.

It all happened rather spontaneously.
J.A. finished filming the official version with half an hour to spare.
Instead of wrapping things up in a leisurely way, he decided to make the most of the venue (the United Palace Theatre in New York) and the two broadway dancers on set. Using the original choreography as a base, he simply told the performers to feel one another and let themselves go.
To add depth to the piece, J.A. asked the Steadicam operator to film the two dancers in circular movements getting as close as he needed to.

As J.A. explained: “I was so inspired both by the energy of the dancers as well as the location – the United Palace Theatre in New York. It was challenging, as we had to do everything in just thirty minutes (hence why the long shot), but it’s rare to have time to spare at the end of a shoot. I just had to do it.”

Quanto tempo ci vuole per girare un video clip? Sembrerebbe che 30 minuti siano abbastanza. Questo è il tempo di cui il regista J.A. Moreno ha avuto bisogno per girare il director’s cut di 2 in a Million, l’ultimo music video per SHAED, Steve Aoki e Sting. 

È successo tutto in modo molto spontaneo.
J.A. aveva finito di girare la versione ufficiale con mezz’ora di anticipo. Invece di sistemare tutto con tranquillità, ha deciso di approfittare della fantastica location ( the United Palace theatre in New York) e dei due ballerini broadway sul set. Poi ha semplicemente usato la coreografia originale come base, lasciando che i due performer fossero trasportati dalle emozioni. Per aggiungere ulteriore profondità, J.A. ha poi chiesto allo steadicam operator di filmare con movimenti circolari, avvicinandosi se necessario.

Come ha commentato J.A.: «Sia l’energia dei ballerini che la location, ovvero il teatro United Palace di New York, sono stati per me una fonte di grande ispirazione. È stato impegnativo, dato che abbiamo dovuto portare a termine il lavoro in soli trenta minuti (da qui la scelta della ripresa in piano sequenza), ma è raro che avanzi del tempo alla fine delle riprese. Dovevo farlo e basta»
