Too cool to be true, please meet our favorite duo in the art world.
They are blonde, very talented and very twins.
Melanie and Stephanie, grew up in the Tyrolean Alps and moved to NYC where they studied Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts. They are now based between Austria and New York.
Born 31 years ago under the Libra sign, these girls, have always taken photographs of each other creating a sort of visual diary during the years, a way for them to explore change and also identify – a theme which as identical twins is very interesting for M&S.
The twin sisters work collaboratively on all their work, working on the same canvas or switching drawings to finish them, a practice they started already when very young. Their work explores themes such as control and chaos, intuition, the struggle with body image, nature versus nurture and aesthetics, and serves as a way to organize the content of their experiences into some form.
Heavenly influenced by Austrian and German expressionists as well New York School artists, their work is also inspired by the way the body can be reduced to only lines and are drawn to the use symbols which encode those meanings such as the spiral to represent chaos. Their work is figurative yet merged with abstraction, often consisting of marks and forms that imply body parts, at times we deconstruct the female figure to enhance and represent the pressures of women to align with current body images and trends.
Here a preview of their new unpublished artworks, enjoy!
